The IIT is a foundation established jointly by the Italian “Ministry of Education, Universities and Research” and the “Ministry of Economy and Finance” to promote excellence in basic and applied research and to contribute to the economic development of Italy. The primary goals of the IIT are the creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge as well as the strengthening of Italy's technological competitiveness. IIT is present on the Italian territory with one main site in Genova, the first opened in 2006, and several new sites located close to or embedded in academic research centers of excellence and other research institution to form a strong research network. IIT participate to this proposal through the recently established Center for Nano Science and Technology (CNST), located in Milan. The research activity at CNST is in the broad context of Nanoscience and mainly regards two specific platforms of the IIT scientific plan: Energy and Smart Materials. In particular, the Center operates at the forefront of science and technology of nanomaterials for optoelectronics, focusing on applications in the fields of photovoltaic conversion, photo-detection, printed electronics and biomimetic systems. D3 Compunet group is composed of a core team of computational scientists whose mission is to develop innovative computational tools and algorithms to enhance the discovery of novel and better medicine.
