Kaunas University of Technology is the largest technical university in the Baltic States and the second largest institution of higher education of Lithuania. It contains 11 faculties, 13 research institutes and 5 research centers. Around 12000 students are enrolled in studies including 375 Ph.D. students; academic staff reaches 1200. The University offers 61 Bachelor’s, 69 Master’s degree and 2 non-degree study programmes. Ph.D. students may choose among 17 areas of study. The University is known to be the leader among other Lithuanian universities in fund raising activities. State budget allocations make only about 50 % the University’s income. The University is especially proud of rapidly developing research in the fields of sustainable energy across all divisions, and the Organic photoconductors group supervised by Prof. V. Getautis is one of the most active research groups in the university successfully working in the field of organic optoelectronics.
